Talk: Curating Feminist Technologies

Contemporary Art Society CPD Study Day / Wednesday 20 March 2019

expanding on ideas in the exhibition Still I Rise: Feminisms, Gender, Resistance, Act 2, curated by Irene Aristizábal (Nottingham Contemporary), Rosie Cooper (De La Warr Pavilion) and Cédric Fauq (Nottingham Contemporary), This day-long, conversational symposium focuses on a feminist approach to collections, displays and exhibitions, with a particular emphasis on an expanded idea of feminist technologies, encompassing ancient practices and recent digital developments. With key academics, practitioners and arts professionals, we will discuss the relationship between the close and distant past and how this can open up new ways of approaching collections and displays, the juxtaposing of different practices, the fight against historical oblivion, and the potential of feminist thought to re-shape institutional practice.
